What is the best time of day for the flight I’d like to do? There is no best time of the day for any tour any day of the year. Our weather changes often and frequently and unfortunately Mother Nature doesn’t let us know about it until right before she implements the changes. The best thing that you can do is leave some flexibility in your schedule. Schedule the time that works best in your trip and leave some room for a back up time/date. If there is a weather day called by our staff, and you have time later in your trip, we can get you the best tour possible.
When should you make a reservation? It depends. The safest answer is as soon as you know what date and time you’d like to go. However, you can make reservations up until the day you’d like to go or walk in if you’re driving by (if space is available). If you have a tight schedule, make your reservation as soon as you can. If you have flexibility in your schedule, make your reservations before flying up to Alaska.
What is Alpine Air Alaska’s cancellation policy? Cancellations can be made with no penalty up to 7 days prior to your tour. If you have to cancel within that 7 day period, 50% of your tour is payable. However, that 50% that became non-refundable can be applied to future flights, space permitting. If you cancel on the day of your tour, 100% will be charged. If we have to cancel your flight due to weather, we will not charge you a dime. Weather cancellations are at the discretion of Alpine Air Alaska’s staff.
Will my cell phone work while I am in Alaska? AT&T is a large provider in Alaska as well as a Verizon affiliate. Those two companies should have good coverage (please keep in mind good coverage to Alaskans means you’ll have reception more often than not, not continuous coverage anywhere you go). Sprint and TracFone also work well, as well as other national networks.
How long is the landing on the glacier during the glacier landing flightseeing tour? If you take one of our glacier landing tours, you will be able to land, get out and walk around North America’s most heavily glaciated mountain range. You can spend 15 to 20 minutes on the ground taking pictures and exploring pristine nature.
What are your flightseeing times? Alpine Air Alaska offers flightseeing tours seven days a week, year-round. However, due to Alaska’s ever changing daylight, our flight times vary with the season. Our summer flightseeing times are: 8:45am, 10:30am, 12:15pm, 2:00pm, 3:45pm, and 5:30pm. Our fall and spring flightseeing times are 9:00am, 10:30am, 12:00pm, 1:30pm, 3:00pm, and 4:30pm. In winter the flight seeing times are: 10:30am, 12:00pm, 1:30pm 3:00pm. If you are not sure what schedule applies to your date just ask the office. For all flights, we ask you to arrive at our hangar 15 minutes early so we can give you a safety briefing on the helicopter.
Absolutely! Many of our guests have booked this option. You get to experience the beauty of flightseeing, and the exciting adventure of dog sledding. Our flightseeing and dog sledding tour times fit perfect together. Therefore, you decide which tour you would like first, and let us take care of the rest.
Transportation to Girdwood? We offer free transportation within Girdwood. This includes the Alyeska Hotel, any of Girdwood's charming B&B's, the Railway station and various other locations. If you're coming from Anchorage, renting a car is always best because there is so much in the area to see. Another option is taking a cab or other transportation service. Most services have flat rates to Girdwood. If you enjoy trains, the Alaska Railway is very scenic.
Do you have a weight restriction? Yes, we do. The seat weight limit is 300lbs. However, we may be able to accommodate passengers
over 300lbs on a standby basis for an additional charge. Please call us for more information.
